Living with Art Series in collaboration with Olsen Gallery, Sydney, hughes is pleased to present a series of gallery talks and discussions. Our observation has been that the efforts made by the gallery community to include and educate artists, collectors and members of the public have been patchy and self serving at best. Since 1969, we have placed a high premium  on bringing people through our doors who were curious and considered about the work that we showed. This series intends to bring together artists,  collectors and interiors professionals who value the objects they make and aquire and tries to unpack why they bring joy to their lives and spaces.

Collecting Outsider Art is the first installment in this series of activations and it coincides with the closing week of Ingenieur Vancy's exhibition Unfolded at Olsen. Vancy is a self taught artist from Kinshasa, Congo. His works are intricite imagined buildings, structures and vehicles on large sheets of paper. The hughes collecting and exhibiting history has a long connection to the work of so-called outsider artists and Evan Hughes will give an overview of the definitional challenges in the field, the ethics involved and the opportunities and shortcomings encountered when combining the oevres and objects of traditional and non-traditional makers.

Please join us for drinks and refreshments as well as a preview of the new exhibition by Scott Daniel Ellison, A Creature Seldom Seen.
